Essay Topic (500 to 1,000 words):  Over the past 100 years, the Chicago Chinatown Community has grown, not only in population but also geographically. Chinatown is no longer just Cermak Rd. and Wentworth Ave.  We now have a park (Ping Tom Memorial Park), a field house (Leonard M. Louie Field House) with a swimming pool and recently a new state-of-the-art public library. Although the Chinese Community extends far out into the suburbs, Chinatown remains a central hub for family gatherings and other “shopping” needs. With this growth the demand for social services has also increased, from educational to recreational to senior services. If not you, your parents or grandparents have benefited from this expansion. Going forward, how would you help Chinatown’s continued expansion? What would you do to inspire others to the do the same?
