Celebrating the Chinese-American cultural heritage of the Midwest
CAMOC (Chinese-American Museum of Chicago), which is governed by the CMF (Chinatown Museum Foundation), needs your support. We hope that you can become a member, a donor, and/or a volunteer. The Foundation is a non-profit organization registered in the state of Illinois. It has 501(C)(3) tax-exempt status, which means that you can deduct your contributions from your Federal income tax.
The laws of many other states (all except Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Nevada, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming) forbid us to solicit contributions unless we register in each of those states -- a slow and painful process. So if you live in such a state, we cannot ask you to give money or historical artifacts to CAMOC, even though it would be perfectly legal for you to make such a gift and that gift would be deductible from your federal income tax. But if you live in Illinois or Indiana, or in one of the eight other states listed above, or in a foreign country (we have already received a significant gift of money from Canada), it is all right for us to ask.
We do need money. While we have already raised most of the cost of the second stage of museum renovation (i.e., the facade and the 2nd floor), and even though the cost of the parking lot has now been pledged, we still must raise the cost of an elevator and renovation of the 3rd and 4th floors. Donors will be recognized on an illuminated wall of "crystal" (i.e., glass) bricks, each etched with the name of a person or corporation. A smaller red brick shows a gift of $1000. A medium sized jade-colored brick shows a gift of $2500. A large gold brick shows a gift of $5000 or more.
REMEMBER: IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO HAVE AN EXHIBITION GALLERY OR AN ENTIRE FLOOR NAMED FOR OR BY A DONOR. SEE DONATION CARD BELOW.
We also need gifts in kind: historical objects, documents, photographs, etc. Please consider donating such items. If you get them appraised, they too are tax deductible.

Potential donors should note that the main ground floor gallery as shown above is still unnamed. It will be given a name in return for a donation of $150,000. The Board of Directors has decided that the arched transom over the entry door will bear the names of the donor and his or her family
